Horse Trials – Poplar Park 27/06/21We were very lucky with the weather in Suffolk on Sunday, which was warm and dryish, with a slight haze.Out of 16 competitors entered, we ran with just 10, after an extraordinary run of incidents and accidents left our teams somewhat depleted. We hope all the horses and riders concerned are fit and well very soon. The day kicked off with the 80 competition with Martin Watts and Quidams Choice, Becky Turner and King of Dreams and Zoe Boggein with Simba. All three turned in excellent dressage tests with Martin having one down sj and just one stop xc to complete on 62.05. Becky had a two poles sj and then her new boy went a bit green at the steps on the XC course. Zoe pleased with her boy, who again went a bit green in the sj, but a good educational day was had by all. Sally Plummer Jones took her youngster Harry in the 80 open class and he didn’t disappoint, for a nice dressage, two poles sj and an awesome clear xc to finish 3rd in her class on 49.4. Very impressive for a 5 year old.On to the 90 seniors, where Jayne Cummins and Vayu cruised round to complete on 31.5, which was good enough for 3rd. Susannah Skeggs Rebel aced the dressage with 29.75, but was a little tired on the sj for a few poles, however he finished the xc strongly. The juniors fielded a team of three in the 90, with Scarlett Lloyd riding her ex race horse Jack for a strong performance in all three phases. Billericay debutant Charlotte Uden Sharon Uden rode her lovely young horse Ice to complete on 53.10, which was good enough for 6th! Daisy Jayne Watson rode Oakley in her 1st 90 competition for a double clear on a dressage score… but 15 speeding penalties just pushed her out of the placings. Finally, on to the mixed 100 team, where Summer Dann and Shamrocks Boy were very stylish to complete on just 35.75 for 4th. Scarlett Lloyd and Wiggle had a fantastic dressage of 28.75, but didn’t take a liking to the SJ this time, so she was saved for another day.Well done to everyone who competed and helped on the day, it was lovely to see so many happy faces. An extra special thanks the Kim Caldwell and Laura Edwards who fence judged all day and to Sarah Henderson who ran the collecting ring in the afternoon and made sure it ran to time. Without these helpers, these events would not happen. Finally, our club is all about team spirit. Jayne Cummins’ lorry didn’t want to start, after 2 horses, 2 dogs and 3 people were loaded up….. so Sally Rose Horne was woken up from happily sleeping on a Sunday morning to deliver her lorry to Jaynes’s house for her to use… at 8.00am!!! Thank you 😊 ...
