British Riding Club Quadrille Champions 2023

Well, what a weekend! After months of planning, training, fundraising, organising music, designing, sewing & stitching, we finally rode (swam?!) down the centre line on Saturday night.

Ellie Lamming Watts riding Brea, Samantha Thompson riding Savana, Grace Hendon riding Rom and Kate Heap riding Dumbo were the dream team on the night and pulled off the routine as well as we had ridden it to impress the judges and crowd 🏆

All 4 horses have done Quadrille before, but not all with these riders! Kate stepped in and borrowed Jan Watts & Martin Watts’ Dumbo, who is scared of his own shadow yet completely stepped up to perform. Grace was the new member of the team (at just 17 years old) and did an excellent job on experienced veteran Rom. Sam borrowed Luis’ Savana who has previously been a last minute Quadrille stand in twice, and she excelled herself again. Ellie was riding her long time partner Brea who will turn her hoof to anything but really loves Quadrille.

It is such a vast team effort to get a successful Quadrille organised and we are so lucky to have had such an incredible year.

Thanks to all of our family members, grooms, friends and supporters who watched, drove, critiqued, did last minute sewing, babysat, looked after horses at home, and did all those extras to help us on our way.

Huge thanks to Kate’s mum and team, and Grace’s mum Nic Nic Hendon for all the effort with the costumes. I’m sure you will agree it was all worth it for how fabulous they looked on the night!

We have had some bad luck in previous years with horses going lame at the last moment, so aimed this year to train as a squad of at least 5. Massive thanks and appreciation to Ellane with Wiggy who has been a fantastic teammate throughout the last few months.

Thank you again to everyone who took part in donating prizes, buying raffle tickets and attending our quiz night.

Meg Adams, Lewis Simmons, Amelia August and Jayne Cummins ventured to Blenheim Horse trials to compete in the Eventer Trial challenge 😁😁
Due to the delights of the M25, M40
And Oxford ring road, even with a 5:15 am start 🙈 we still managed to arrive just as the course walk finished at 8:30 😬😬😬
Interesting, trying to learn a course of 17 SJ and XC fences by watching a couple of horses compete 😜
Luckily, Amelia had arrived earlier, so she helped the late arrivals 😜
First up was Jayne and Vay who jumped a lovely round, spot on the time, just to kick out the last Joker fence 😢
Amelia was next with Ollie, who jumped a foot perfect round, just 0.13 seconds off the optimum time for 0.4 time penalties 💪
Meg and Foggy were next, who were again foot perfect, for just 4 time penalties ☺️
Anchorman Lewis steamed round, again for a faultless round, for two speeding penalties 💨
This left the team 15th, out of 48 teams 💪💪💪
Well done everyone, and special thanks to Sarah Henderson for organising and Jo Adams for driving. A fabulous day all round, even if it did take 3.5 hours to get home 🙄

Lincoln 2023 championships Senior report!!

Sarah Henderson, Jacqui Watson Cummins, Hannah Godfrey and Julie Everett represented the club in the Style jumping Championship on Saturday 2nd September 😀
Hannah and Paddy were their usual foot perfect selves to score a win in their section 🥇.
Sarah and Bert also jumped a stylish round for 6th in their section 💪
Jacqui borrowed daughter Daisy’s pony in the 85 section for a creditable 13th place, with Julie and Haff stepping up to 85 and performing really well 💪💪
These great scores meant the team came 3rd 🥉 Nationally 👏👏👏👏 sashes all round 😀
More horse sharing, with Danielle Gilis riding her and daughter Emilie Gilis Ollie in the 80 ( which is actually 90 in the second round 😜)
They completed both rounds with just 4 faults, for 39th place, out of nearly 100 competitors!! 👏👏👏
Hannah and Paddy also contested the veteran horse Elementry class, which they duly WON with 67.58% 🏆 👏👏👏
Julie and Haff qualified individually for P14 and scored 63.38% for 8th!! More frillies 🏵️🏵️🏵️👏👏
Both Sarah and Jacqui rode N27 at the crack of Dawn on Saturday, for 63.93% 11th and 62.32% 14th respectively 👏👏👏🤩
Last up were Jayne and Vay, who contested M61. His second ever attempt at a medium test (the first being the qualifier 😜) resulted in a score of 65%, which was good enough for 10th 🤩🏵️🏵️
Vay then had to put on his jumping shoes as he’d qualified individually in the 100 SJ competition had been invited to join the Area 8 team.
Vay jumped beautifully for just a couple of poles. The team were not placed, but it was great to join up with another Essex Club, thank you Jo Mason 😊
The team spirit and camaraderie of our little club is just incredible.
Well done to everyone throughout the weekend 👏👏👏
The qualifiers start again on 8th October!

A full write up on the Facebook page for RC National Champs held at Lincoln, however a great weekend was had by all and the usual Billericay team spirit was in full swing, with everyone supporting each other. Roll on the next one!

Well done to the Billericay teams at the British riding clubs national intermediate champs at Bury Farm this weekend!!
The intermediate show jumping team didn’t have the best of luck before the competition, with team member Jayne being injured. Super sub Samantha Slater stepped in, but then poor Jess Fenn’s horse got colic the night before!! We wish both Jayne and Jess’s horse Carol a speedy recovery.
As is the Billericay way, the team all supported each other and had fun in between nerves, brown pants moments and had great team spirit above all
Olivia Stafford and Wexford produced two stylish rounds, over an up to height, challenging championship course, which left them finishing individually in the top third of a big class.
Sam and Whiley also rose to the occasion, again producing two stylish rounds, over the biggest course he has seen.
3rd team member Emily Crown and Dan started so well, but had a little disagreement over the combination, which to be fair he had never seen before, but well-done Emily on your debut for the club.
Hannah Godfrey and Molly then flew the flag for the club in the Dressage Champs, which was a big question for a young horse in only her 4th attempt at a novice test. She managed to hold it together with the flags and flowers blowing in the wind and bagged an impressive 66.79% to finish 13th!
An overall fantastic performance from everyone, well done.

This weekend took us to Wix for the showjumping in

This weekend took us to Wix for the showjumping indoors. Again we had many lovely rounds from both junior and senior riders. To mention a couple… Senior 70 team had individual 1st with Hannah Godfrey, individual 2nd with Sarah Henderson and the rest of the team displaying some classy riding. Junior 80 team come second and the junior 90 team showed us again horses aren’t always perfect but try their best for us to enjoy our sport. Well done everyone representing our club, we’re grateful for everyone’s team spirit 🤩

The club has been very busy the last couple of weekends. Starting with arena eventing last weekend at Codham Park, where everyone that represented the club come out the ring with a smile on their faces and with some winter training ideas which is just fab. Thank you to everyone who represented the club, and made us proud to be part of such a lovely team🦄
